Will You Choose Growth?

Objects with life are soft and pliable. Take for instance a leaf still connected to its source. Even a tree that is still alive. You may say, “No! Its bark is hard,” but on the inside, it is moist and its sap can be molded. Objects with life are pliable.

On the contrary, objects without life are brittle and dry. The same leaf, once detached from its source, dries up and dies.

Nature holds this lesson for you: to be brittle is to reject growth; to be pliable is to welcome life.

Welcome growth by allowing life freely.

LIVING THE TAO: Today, consider where you may be resisting change. If the resistance comes from the desire to hold on to the way things were, then reconsider. Everything changes, and your resistance will eventually be for naught. Open yourself to the growth that is possible when you allow the natural flow of life.

My 2018 focus is to intentionally live the Tao Te Ching. This is my second reading of Stephen Mitchell’s translation. I share my daily interpretations hoping to inspire you to do the same.
