The wise person knows it is unnecessary to strive for power. True power is from within, therefore, what need is there to work for what you already have? It is the person who suffers the disease of separation from Source that exerts energy for power.

A benevolent person is unable to help everyone. A fair person can be blind to a truth. A moral person can become controlling. From benevolent to fair to moral: in the name of what is good, chaos can emerge when control fails.

Therefore, focus on cultivating what is inward, as it gives fruit that produces more fruit; everything outward is good-looking ground cover.

Power is already yours. Aligning with your inner power produces more good than actually trying to do good.

Showing compassion demonstrates more power than writing rules.

LIVING THE TAO: Today, as you bring awareness to a situation you are trying to control, ask yourself, “can I truly change someone’s heart with force?” Once you arrive at your answer, choose real power for the change that matters—the change of your heart.

My 2018 focus is to intentionally live the Tao Te Ching. This is my second reading of Stephen Mitchell’s translation. I share my daily interpretations hoping to inspire you to do the same.
