| The Tao Chapter 39 – My Second Interpretation |

When man lives in harmony with the flow of life, respect for all that lives is evident. An understanding of the Divinity of self, others and nature contributes to his natural way of being.

Inharmonious living creates a disconnect from this Divinity. Destruction of his world for gain is the result.

A wise person esteems the interconnection of all. He avoids elevating himself above everything that lives and allows his ways to be guided by the flow of life. In this way, he knows the collective we — himself, others and nature — thrives.

LIVING THE TAO: Today, consider a plant or tree. In that moment, the two of you exchange gases for life—you give it carbon dioxide, and it gives you oxygen. With such a harmonious relationship, what good does it do either of you to destroy it? Or to abuse nature? Move throughout the day recognizing your interactions with all and be aware of your behavior toward the collective we.

My 2018 focus is to intentionally live the Tao Te Ching. This is my second reading of Stephen Mitchell’s translation. I share my daily interpretations hoping to inspire you to do the same.
