Your relationship to wisdom informs your relationship to the flow of life. The wise embodies it. The one who aspires, wavers. The one who is wise in his own eyes, laughs. To him, such talk is foolish.

But wisdom first often appears contradictory. Before there is light, there is darkness; understanding, misunderstanding; and strength, weakness. Thus, the seemingly wise is foolish, while the seeming fool ends with wisdom.

To live fully, one must be like a child – pliable and open to life’s guidance and nurturing without always understanding its path. The wise knows that the path to truth is obscure.

LIVING THE TAO: Today, consider a situation that has been confusing and you have been trying to figure out. Are you able to stop? This is practice toward wisdom.

My 2018 focus is to intentionally live the Tao Te Ching. This is my second reading of Stephen Mitchell’s translation. I share my daily interpretations hoping to inspire you to do the same.
