Striving is Unnecessary

Seeking fulfillment in life is an indication that you are unfulfilled. Seeking fulfillment is seeking a feeling of wholeness. If you do not feel whole, then there is something to give up. Hence, in seeking wholeness, you must first release the parts of you that do not serve your seeking.

There is wholeness that you believe you can have by striving to collect possessions, titles and status. Or there is the wholeness that is yours when you surrender and allow your true nature to align with life’s flow. It is through the latter that you shine.

If success is what you seek, then give up the need for it. Give up trying to become, to instead, allow your true nature to unfold through surrender.

With surrender comes success.

LIVING THE TAO: Today, consider if you have been striving. Do you feel like you’ve been climbing a mountain that does not seem to have a peak? If so, why? What do you believe is waiting for you there and is this the way you want to continue? If not, consider what you must let go.

My 2018 focus is to intentionally live the Tao Te Ching. This is my third reading of Stephen Mitchell’s translation. I share my daily interpretations hoping to inspire you to do the same.
