This Cohabitation is Wrong!

Fear and faith cannot exist in the same space at the same time.

Tammy was afraid.

Over the course of several coaching sessions it was blatantly obvious that she was not moving forward with her coaching plan, or her life.

When asked why, her answers always went back to being afraid. But here’s the thing: she would say something about being afraid and not long after, mention something that her pastor taught during the previous Sunday service. The pastor’s message always related to her current dilemma.

After about 3 sessions of listening to this very dedicated church goer use fear as her excuse for not moving forward, the pen went down, the notebook got closed and the glasses came off.

The next words uttered went like this:

Me: Tammy, I’m going to talk about your religion because you keep bringing it up. Is that okay?

Tammy: Yes.

Me: You go to church, right?

Tammy: Yes.

Me: So, would you call yourself a Christian?

Tammy: Yes.

Me: And you read the bible?

Tammy: Yes. Every day! (She said this proudly.)

Me: And do you believe what you read?

Tammy: Yes.

Me: Well correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t YOUR bible say that God didn’t give you a spirit of fear, but power?

Tammy: (After a pause) Yes.

Me: And doesn’t YOUR bible also say something about faith being evidence of the things you want?

Tammy: (Very softly) Yes.

Me: Then you need to pick what you’re gonna believe. You’re either going to believe in the fear or believe in the faith. But you can’t believe in both, so pick one now and let’s move on from this place!

The coaching session went on, but my point: you can’t go through life being afraid. You’ve got to decide to be bold or at the end of your days, what would have been your purpose?

Being bold doesn’t mean the fear goes away. It simply means that you choose to feel the fear and move forward despite the pounding in your chest.

Take one small step. Just one. Begin by declaring, I AM BOLD!

Decide on a thing you are going to do today that is one small step toward living your bold self.

Now, get to it!
